DC Design Week: Pop-Up

Vendor call for a pop-up block party on Friday, October 8, 6–10 pm, at the Brookland Arts Walk! There are 2 options for participating this year: 1) Consignment with Terratorie Maps + Goods — If you have a small amount of merchandise to sell (max 3 SKUs, with 6 items per SKU) and would prefer someone else handles the transactions, this is the right fit for you. Items will be sold on consignment, and anything unsold will be returned to you. Makers keep 60% of sale price. 2) Hosted by a Brookland Arts Walk studio — If you're interested in displaying more of your work AND can handle your own transactions (have your own Square, etc), you will be paired with one of the 27 different studios on the Arts Walk for the Block Party. There will be both indoor spaces in the studios and outdoor spaces for tables to sell your work.

Small Food Business 101: Choosing Your License & Location

Join the DC Food Policy Council’s Entrepreneurship and Food Jobs (EFJ) Working Group for a workshop on the basics of different food licenses and a discussion on the costs, processes, and the pros and cons of different licenses. You will also hear from a panel of DC-based entrepreneurs who have successfully navigated different models of their food businesses, including Danielle Harris, who has run private dining meal service No Reservations cooking in customer homes, catering company District Graze out of shared commercial kitchen spaces, and now her own brick-and-mortar Little Food Studio. This workshop is a collaboration between the Food Policy Council, the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DLSBD), the Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC), and the Green Scheme. It is the first event in a series to help DC food entrepreneurs find the right space for their business. Register today!

Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) joined forces with Kiva, a nonprofit worldwide microlender, to offer DC businesses and DC resident entrepreneurs no-barrier, favorable term crowdfunding loans to help them open, operate, pivot and grow their business in the District of Columbia. Loans range from $1,000 to $15,000 awarded in less than 60 days and can be repaid at 0% interest over 12-36 months.
